👋Hi Friends,
📆This Week’s Topic
Worried about AI taking your job? Maybe not! Dario Amodei just announced on Saturday that his company Anthropic is going to slow down their development of their next models in order to allow time for regulation to take place. This recently happened in part because an Anthropic employee quit after expressing safety concerns about their Claude AI. Multiple other high-ranking employees and CEOs at other big AI companies have had similar thoughts and have agreed with Mr. Amodei. A lot of big AI people have agreed that AI has a lot of power and a lot of responsibility to go with that. They all register that AI has the tools to modernize industries but also lose millions of jobs for Americans.
💳 The Issue
The issue at hand is that AI is progressing super fast. They are working on new models day and night working to make AI more effective and more accurate. Although, with the rapid progression of AI, the U.S. has failed to create a set of federal regulations regarding AI and consumer safety. High execs at OpenAI which manages ChatGPT, Anthropic which manages Claude, and SpaceX which uses AI a lot commercially. Dario Amodei from Anthropic, Elon Musk from SpaceX, and Sam Altman from OpenAI. All of these people agreed that AI is moving way to fast to maintain and they all should slow down AI growth. Mr. Amodei noted that he built Anthropic on the principle of building AI slowly and carefully and he wants to keep that up by slowing down AI at the current moment.
📊 How Does This Affect My Wallet?
I would say that these execs going together to figure this out is generally beneficial to your wallet. One risk we all have always worried about AI is that it was going to take over our job and replace us. Having these CEOs taking a moment to consider this and making decisions with that in mind is beneficial to all of us. Also, I mentioned last month how the AI bubble was going to pop, decreasing the growth of AI will help people realize the true value and escape the AI bubble without crashing the world economy.
🔚 Outcome
The outcome of these conversations, essays, and communications is that the government attempts to create regulation for these AI companies to ensure consumer safety. If the government is successful these companies will be more obligated to make these AI’s more safe and try to prevent them from stealing Americans’ jobs. Then slowly these companies will most likely try to ramp up their AI growth to try and improve their models but still being careful and safe while doing so. If on the other hand the government isn’t able to create regulations these companies will hopefully still improve AI safely and carefully without risking our jobs. So either way we are most likely going in a better direction after this because of the executives coming together and discussing this.
⏳ Final Summary
In summary, the CEO of Anthropic, Mr. Amodei just announced his company was slowing down growth and training of his AI models in Claude. Many other important AI people like Sam Altman from OpenAI and Elon Musk from Tesla and SpaceX have come together and agreed with Mr. Amodei on this matter. They have all shared they will be slowing down AI growth and consumption of AI to try to make space for the government to create some sort of regulation on the matter. Hopefully, this will result in AI to go in a better direction from now on.
