Today, I want to discuss AI and its future. Why am I mentioning AI in a finance newsletter? I am including this because AI will be the future of finance, and within itself, it is a business. I want to talk about this because as my finance readers, I believe that you should know about Deepseek and what has happened in the AI industry. Especially since the AI industry has shown and is performing rapid growth throughout the entire industry.

Very recently, the new Chinese AI company named Deepseek has been made public over the news. This is a result of discoveries in China that allow AI to be used with significantly less power usage. Deepseek is a tech startup that released the AI that competes against companies in the US that are worth hundreds of billions of dollars. This has made a lot of companies like Meta and OpenAI nervous that Deepseek could take over the industry. The day that Deepseek was shown to the entire world and went public NVIDIA lost 22% of its previous value.

Deepseek is a startup founded by the Chinese trading firm High-Flyer. Deepseek is known for hiring AI researchers from top colleges across the world. They promise high salaries to the highest and most intelligent AI researchers and data collectors. Deepseek has most recently released Deepseek-V3. This new model underpins chatbots like Google Gemini & ChatGBT. This new model costs a lot less to produce and uses a lot less power in the overall process. This makes this AI model more future-proof as it has less of an impact on the earth when using it.

Deepseek released its new Deepseek-V3 Model to the general public on December 26th, 2024. As soon as Deepseek-V3 was released the stock markets quickly reacted. Deepseek-V3 had the possibility of being able to do similar actions as Chatbots from today from OpenAI and Google Gemini. That alone would have already made a big dent in the market. When US companies train and test their chatbots they usually use about 16,000 chips. When Deepseek made their new model they only used about 2,000 of the NVIDIA chips. This was a huge problem in the market as Deepseek only used a fraction of the chips that the US companies used to train their chatbots.

In 2022, OpenAI brought to everyone the idea of AI in our lives. Although, we also have spent billions of dollars researching and implementing these AI chips. But, now after the discovery of the Deepseek technology, we can create and research new AI without spending ridiculous amounts of funding. Deepseek has stated they only need $8 million of funding for their next version. This is a minuscule amount of money compared to what American companies are using to research their future AI.

Deepseek-V3 can do almost everything that American AI can do. Deepseek can solve logic problems and answer questions with ease. OpenAI can also give reasoning which Deepseek is still working on. But before we know it Deepseek will most likely have those features done as well.

I also want to take this opportunity to discuss what the future could be. I think if we do this right, we could work with Deepseek to create AI together instead of spending money that could be used for other purposes. We could work together and use AI for a fraction of the cost. But this requires cooperation, we have to motivate the countries and companies to work together and create AI models that can benefit all of us. We can use the billions of dollars to fund programs and to circulate in the economy instead of researching AI models that we can research for a fraction of the cost with Deepseek. This would be our chance to save a lot of money.
